COMMAND FLIGHT TRAINING - MURRAY BRIDGE AIRFIELD

LEARN TO FLY SCHOOL FACILITIES

SCHOOL FACILITIES

Command Flight Training is located at Pallamana Aerodrome in Murray Bridge (YMBD) and Parafield (YPPF) in South Australia. Our office and lounge have a club atmosphere and are air conditioned. Our staff maintain a healthy stock of aviation theory books, charts, documents, and navigation equipment on hand for loan or purchase.

For students travelling long distances, we offer comfortable, affordable accommodation facilities on the airfield. The airport house sleeps up to six (6) people and is equipped with a well-appointed kitchen and amenities.

The aerodrome is located only a short drive from the historic township of Murray Bridge. Being on the eastern side of the Adelaide Hills our location allows our students to go flying when most other schools are grounded due to poor weather. The relatively flat terrain of the Riverland provides a safe training environment and the ability to explore further afield on challenging navigation training exercises.

Free from the constrictions of controlled airports and airspace, our students don’t waste valuable time (and money) sitting on the ground waiting for other aircraft or for clearances from Air Traffic Control (ATC). Being only a short flight from both Adelaide and Parafield Airports, our students are able to gain valuable controlled airspace (CTA) experience without the daily frustrations of on-ground delays experienced by other schools.

Murray Bridge Aerodrome is serviced by two runways - main runway 01/19, and crosswind runway 02/27 and three windsocks, giving students the perfect opportunity to hone their skills in normal and cross-wind conditions.

Aviation fuel (AVGAS) is available on-site from a self-service bowser. Teaching students how to properly refuel their own aircraft is essential training for “The Real World”.

Murray Bridge is fortunate to be one of a handful of small aerodromes in South Australia to have its own Terminal Area Forecast (TAF). Having this accurate weather information readily available greatly increases both flight planning and operational flexibility.

For night operations, the main runway is serviced by CASA-approved Pilot Activated Lighting (PAL) with stand-by power and portable lights available. Having this lighting system available gives our students the opportunity to conduct night flying training year-round.
